bETA, presented by New Majority Capital, is a 10-week, hybrid accelerator for underrepresented entrepreneurs interested in acquiring a small business.

Since 2023, bETA has grown from our first accelerator in Providence, RI to a national reach with alumni across 16 cohorts in 9 cities.

We’ve since trained bETA fellows in Atlanta, DC, New York City, Houston, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Detroit, Los Angeles, Providence, and Raleigh-Durham. In 2027, we’re excited to add Chicago to our list of cities!

bETA is for active searchers. An active searcher is someone who is currently in the process of searching for a business to acquire -- not someone who is simply exploring the concept or considering it someday.

Select seats in each cohort are reserved for residents of the specific state or region.

The curriculum is delivered by faculty from Babson College and other partner institutions.

Yes! bETA is free for fellows who close on a business within 24 months of graduation.

All fellows accepted into New Majority Capital’s bETA Accelerator are required to contribute a $5,000 deposit into a dedicated escrow account as a condition of participation. A separate, non-refundable $250 account setup fee also applies. The deposit is intended to demonstrate your commitment to the business acquisition process and will be fully returned if you successfully complete an acquisition within 24 months of graduating from bETA.

bETA is designed for active searchers who are committed to buying a business, and this structure reflects our shared investment in getting you to close.

bETA Fellows are responsible for their transportation to in-person sessions. NMCF will provide complimentary hotels and meals.

Yes. The accelerator will also teach you how to actively engage with brokers and current listings of businesses for sale.

A good bETA candidate who is actively searching typically:

Has committed to self-funded search as their path (not raising a traditional search fund)
Is actively sourcing, evaluating, or pursuing acquisition targets
May be at any stage of the search process, from reviewing CIMs to engaging lenders to being under LOI
Is treating the search as their primary professional focus, not a side project
Has tolerance for calculated risks
Comfortable with numbers
Respectful of their time and others’ time
Self-aware and coachable

Typically lenders require a 680 credit score to get approved for a bank loan. Credit score requirements vary based on the lender. bETA fellows have access to complimentary resources to improve credit scores by the conclusion of the accelerator.

bETA will expose individuals to pre-acquisition funding options to cover costs such as legal and financial due diligence. Participating in bETA does not automatically guarantee any fellow to funding.

Financing options vary based on the deal. During bETA, fellows will be exposed to a variety of financing options and deal structures.

However, many bETA Fellows take advantage of the SBA loan products, which currently expect buyers to contribute at least 10% of the equity of the deal.

For example, in a $1,000,000 deal, you should expect to have at least $100,000 in liquidity.

bETA does not provide college credit. All fellows who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion. The certificate can be used to demonstrate that you possess the relevant knowledge when it comes to acquiring and operating a business. This gives investors, lenders, and sellers confidence in you as a buyer.

Sessions will be held either virtually or in person in the respective cohort city. Individuals accepted into the accelerator will be provided with detailed logistics before Orientation.

A detailed cohort schedule will be distributed to individuals who are accepted and enroll in a cohort.
